Introduction to ACITAK 300 MG TABLET

ACITAK 300 MG TABLET is also commonly prescribed to prevent stomach ulcers and heartburn caused due to the use of painkillers. It must be swallowed whole with water preferably before meals to prevent the symptoms of acidity. The medicine must be taken in dose and duration as advised by the doctor. This medicine should relieve indigestion and heartburn within a few hours. If the symptoms persist or get worse even after 14 days of treatment, you should consult your doctor immediately. It is not recommended to take this medicine in severe stomach disease. You can help the medicine work better by eating smaller meals more often and avoiding spicy or oily foods.

Most people who take it do not have any side effects but the most common ones include headache, dizziness, diarrhea, muscle pain, skin rash and tiredness. If you do get a side effect, it is usually mild and will go away when you stop taking this medicine or as you adjust to it. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects bother you or do not go away.

Before taking it, you should tell your doctor if you have any heart, kidney, or liver diseases so that your doctor can prescribe a suitable dose for you. How ACITAK 300 MG TABLET works

ACITAK 300 MG TABLET is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach which helps relieve of acid-related indigestion and heartburn.

How To Use ACITAK 300 MG TABLET

  • Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. ACITAK 300 MG TABLET may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Why should Acitak be taken at bedtime?

Acitak can be given as a single daily dose or as multiple daily doses depending on your condition. When given in a single dose, it is preferred that you should take it before going to bed as it is very effective in decreasing nighttime acid secretion and a fixed time will help you to remember to take the medicine.

Is there any vitamin and mineral loss when Acitak is taken?

Acitak is not known to cause vitamin and mineral loss or deficiency. However, Acitak belongs to the class of H2 receptor blocker which can decrease vitamin B12 absorption and cause its deficiency as reported in some studies especially when used for more than two years.

Can I take Acitak with antacids?

Antacids and Acitak both can be taken at the same time as they are not known to affect each other’s action. However, both Acitak and antacids help in decreasing the acidity and use of more than one drug for the same effect is not advisable unless absolutely necessary.

Are there any withdrawal symptoms associated with the use of Acitak?

Clinical studies or reports so far have not reported any withdrawal symptoms when the patient stops taking Acitak and this suggests that Acitak has no addictive potential.

Does Acitak work for molluscum contagiosum?

Oral Acitak has been seen to be effective in treating molluscum in children. However, this is not an approved indication for its use. Please consult your doctor before taking it for this condition.

Why does Acitak increase the action of opiates?

Acitak increases the action of an opioid like substances by inhibiting enzymes which are responsible for the breakdown of opiates. Due to a decrease in the breakdown, opioid levels increase in the body and hence their action is also increased.

Can I take Acitak with coffee?

There are no reports of any harmful effects of taking Acitak along with coffee. However, Acitak can decrease the breakdown of coffee and increase its effects. Also, coffee is a gastric stimulant and can increase acid secretion and aggravate your underlying condition.

Is Acitak available over the counter?

No, Acitak is not available as an over-the-counter medication. It is a prescription medicine and is available only when prescribed by a physician.

How is Omeprazole better than Acitak?

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor and Acitak is an H2 receptor blocker. They act in different ways but both decrease the acid production in the stomach. However, according to some studies, omeprazole is more potent, longer acting, and has fewer side effects when compared to Acitak.

How can Acitak cause gynecomastia?

Acitak causes gynecomastia (enlarged breasts of males) by decreasing the male hormone (testosterone) levels and blocking the sensitivity of the target areas on which testosterone acts. However, the breast enlargement is not bothersome. Please consult your doctor if this worries you.

Is Acitak an antacid?

No, Acitak is not an antacid as it does not neutralize the acids of the stomach rather it works by decreasing the production of the acid.

Can I take Acitak with loperamide?

Acitak can decrease the metabolism of Loperamide, increase its blood levels. This can in turn increase the effects and side effects of Loperamide. So, consult your doctor prior to taking both the medicines together as your dose of Loperamide may need to be decreased.
