Introduction to Ebexid B Tablet

Ebexid B Tablet may be taken with or without food. It should be used in the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. It is advised to take this medicine at a fixed time.

This medicine should not be taken more than the recommended dose. 
Common side effects include anxiety, vomiting, diarrhea, and palpitations. The side effects are for a short duration and are well-tolerated. However, if these side effects persist for a longer duration, please consult your doctor.

How Ebexid B Tablet works

Ebexid B Tablet is a combination of three medicines: Nicotinamide, Thyroxine and Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine). Thyroxine is a synthetic version of a hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It works by replacing the thyroid hormones that your thyroid gland cannot produce. This relieves the symptoms of hypothyroidism (tiredness, weight gain, and depression). Nicotinamide and Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) provide essential nutrients.

  • Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Ebexid B Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.

What is the best time to take Ebexid B?

It is best to take Ebexid B on an empty stomach (ideally, first thing in the morning before breakfast) as it contains Thyroxine / Levothyroxine. No tea/coffee, food or milk should be taken 1 hour before and 2 hours after taking this medicine as it affects the absorption of Thyroxine / Levothyroxine. For those who cannot take it empty stomach, can take it with breakfast but this could cause fluctuation in the TSH levels.

Can I stop taking Ebexid B if my symptoms are relieved?

Take Ebexid B exactly as advised by your doctor. Get your thyroid function tests regularly and consult your doctor before making any changes in the dose of your medicine.

Can the use of Ebexid B cause weight loss?

Ebexid B contains thyroxine/levothyroxine and is indicated for use in patients with hypothyroidism which is usually associated with weight gain. Ebexid B may help in maintaining a normal weight of the patients but does not cause weight loss. However, weight loss could be a side effect of this medicine when taken in more than recommended doses.

What are the contraindications to the use of Ebexid B?

The use of Ebexid B is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to any of its ingredients, in patients of thyrotoxicosis (patients with very high levels of thyroid hormones) and patients with any disease of the adrenal glands.

Which drugs should preferably be avoided with Ebexid B?

There are many drugs which should preferably be avoided along with Ebexid B as it contains Thyroxine. The various drugs include antacids, iron, sucralfate, cholestyramine, proton pump inhibitors, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, and phenytoin. These drugs can lower the levels of thyroxine. Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines. Your doctor may adjust your dose.
