Amexine 500mg/8mg Capsule is a combination of two medicines: Amoxycillin and Bromhexine which treat respiratory tract infections associated with excessive mucus (phlegm). Amoxycillin is an antibiotic which kills bacteria by preventing them from forming their own protective covering. Bromhexine is a mucolytic which thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. Addition of Bromhexine enhances the antibacterial effect of Amoxycillin.
Take Amexine as soon as you remember it. However, do not take it if its almost time for your next dose. Also, do not take an extra dose to make up for your missed dose.
Although it is rare but yes, Amexine can cause allergic reaction and is harmful in patients with known allergy to penicillins. Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction: hives difficulty in breathing swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
