- Levofloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including infections of the skin, sinuses, kidneys, bladder, and lungs.
- It belongs to a class of drugs called fluoroquinolones.
Levofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination in bacteria, leading to the death of the bacteria.
- Take Levofloxacin exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily. It can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of tendon disorders, kidney disease, or myasthenia gravis. Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen, as Levofloxacin can increase sensitivity to sunlight.
