Neosporin Ointment is a combination medicine. It is used to treat various types of bacterial skin infections. It minimizes symptoms of skin infection such as redness, swelling, itching, etc., by acting against the infection-causing microorganisms.
Neosporin Ointment is meant for external use only. It should be applied only to the affected area of the skin as per the dosage and schedule prescribed by your doctor. In order to get the most benefit, apply it regularly and preferably at the same time each day. Do not use larger amounts or apply it more often or for a longer duration than directed.
Avoid any contact with your eyes, nose or mouth. Rinse it off with water if you accidentally get the medicine in these areas. Before using it, inform your doctor if you have any previous history of allergy to it or any other medicine. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using it. Local side effects like minor burning, stinging or irritation may be seen after application. Consult your doctor if these persist or if your condition doesnt improve.
How Neosporin Eye Ointment 10gm works
Neosporin Eye Ointment works through the synergistic action of three powerful antibiotics. **Neomycin**, an aminoglycoside, disrupts bacterial protein synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. **Polymyxin B** binds to the outer membranes of bacteria, increasing their permeability and causing leakage of cellular contents, which kills the bacteria. **Bacitracin** inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, preventing bacterial growth and multiplication. Together, these antibiotics offer broad-spectrum protection against a wide range of ocular pathogens, effectively controlling infections, preventing their progression, and promoting faster healing of the eye.
