Ripe-FD Tablet is a combination of five medicines: Rifampicin, isoniazid, ethambutol, pyrazinamide and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) which treat tuberculosis (TB). Rifampicin works by inactivating a bacterial enzyme (RNA-polymerase) which is required by TB bacteria to make essential proteins and to reproduce, while isoniazid prevents the these bacteria from forming their own protective covering. Together, they kill the bacteria and eradicate the infection. Ethambutol and pyrazinamide, on the other hand work by slowing the growth of these bacteria. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is added to prevent nerve damage which may be a side effect of isoniazid.
