How SA 12%w/w Ointment 25gm works

Salicylic acid is an anti-inflammatory agent and it is a topical antibacterial agent, it is also a keratolytic acid medicine that softens, separates, and peels the epithelial layer of the skin which breaks up the clumps of keratin and removes dead skin cells and gives a soft texture to the skin.

  • Apply a thin layer of this amount after cleaning and drying the affected area.

What If I Missed A Dose Of SA 12%w/w Ointment 25gm

  • The missed dose should be applied as soon as remember. 
  • But if missed till almost the next dose time then skip the dose and continue with regular schedule. 
  • To make up for the missed dose don’t apply an extra dose.

Acne is a very common issue related to skin that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. It generally appears on the face, chest, and back. It occurs as a result of imbalance in hormones, genetics, or due to bacterial infection.

How long does it take for SA to start working?

The length of treatment will vary depending on the size and resistance of the wart, verruca, corn, or callus. Some warts and verrucas require up to 12 weeks treatment before they disappear, whereas others may take a relatively short time. Continue using it as prescribed by your doctor.

What precautions do I need to follow while applying SA?

Take special care while applying SA, the gel should not come in contact with surrounding healthy skin. Special precautions should be taken for young children’s delicate skin, as this may cause irritation. Do not apply excessive amounts of gel. Keep the gel away from your eyes, nose, and mouth, and from cuts, and scratched or eroded skin. Avoid spilling as this may cause damage to you, your clothing, and your possessions. Do not use it near flames or ignition sources (e.g., burning cigarettes or anything else that might ignite it), as it is volatile and highly flammable.

Should SA be left overnight?

At the beginning of the treatment, SA is usually used once daily in the evening. The area is not washed off after application of SA, so it can be left overnight unless you experience irritation. However, if you experience irritation, consult your doctor.

Does SA affect skin?

SA works by softening the hard skin growth (seen commonly in corns and calluses), making it easier to remove with a pumice stone or emery board. It helps by killing the virus that causes warts and verrucas. Warts and verrucas are small excessive growths of skin caused by a type of virus. However, corns and calluses are hard, thick pads of skin caused by pressure and friction.

What should prompt me to discontinue SA?

You should discontinue SA and consult your doctor if you experience severe local irritation, which means severe redness, dryness and itching and stinging/burning sensation.

How should SA be applied?

Soak the affected area in warm water for 2 to 3 minutes. Dry the area thoroughly, using your own towel, so as to avoid infection. Carefully apply a thin coating (one or two drops) of the medicine to the top of the wart, verruca, corn, or callus. Avoid the medicine from spreading to the surrounding healthy skin. Allow the medicine to dry for a few minutes to form a small white patch. This patch sticks to the treated area and is water resistant. There is no need to cover the treated area with a sticking plaster. Wait till the next evening, carefully peel or pick off the white patch of dried gel from the wart, verruca, corn, or callus.

Does SA lighten skin?

SA is primarily used for corns, warts, callus, and verucca. However, it can also be used for lightening the skin especially in acne. Consult your doctor who can advise you regarding the correct choice of skin lightening cream, containing Salicylic acid.

How long does SA take to show its effects?

You may see an improvement after 4-6 weeks of treatment. You may need to use this treatment for longer to see the full benefits. This is normal for acne treatments. If your acne does not get better after 1 month or if it gets worse, talk to your doctor immediately.

Do you apply moisturizer before or after SA?

You may apply moisturizer an hour after applying SA. Consult your doctor in case of any doubt or concern.

How often should I apply SA?

The initial dose is preferably once daily in the evening. Later, the doctor will gradually increase the dose to twice daily (most probably morning and evening).
